sbo128 Leonardo Bittencourt has activated his relegation clause to leave FC Koln for Hoffenheim after the club dropped out of the Bundesliga.
The midfielder appeared 20 times for the Billy Goats during the Cologne club’s disappointing campaign, scoring three goals and creating another three for his team-mates.
However, the midfielder has left the club for an undisclosed fee in pursuit of Champions League football with Hoffenheim next season, a move that Koln CEO Armin Veh says he understands.
“Leo is one of the players we would like to have,” he told Koln’s website. “But it is understandable that he wants to take advantage of the opportunity to continue his career at the highest level in Hoffenheim and to play in the Champions League. We do not blame him.
So far, Bittencourt is the only Koln player to trigger his relegation clause, with Jonas Hector and Timo Horn having already made the decision to remain with the club.
