Salah wins Football Writers' player of the year award

Liverpool forward Mohamed sboasia Salah has added another trophy to his cabinet after being named the Premier League player of the season by the Football Writers' Association for 2017/18.The Egyptian beat Kevin De Bruyne by just 20 votes, with the two stars counting for over 90% of votes from over 400 members. The 25-year-old has become the first African to claim the award and will be presented with the trophy on May 10, becoming the first Liverpool player to win it since Luis Suarez in 2014 and Steven Gerrard before him in 2009.With 31 goals this season, Salah is just one away from beating Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Suarez and Alan Shearer to set a new record for the highest sboasia goal return from a 38-game Premier League season.Patrick Barclay, president of the FWA, said that it was the closest vote since 1968/69 when there was a draw between Tony Book of Manchester City and Dave Mackay of Derby County. On April 22, Salah was voted as the best player of the season by the Professional Footballers' Association and he has now become the sixth player in the last seven seasons to win both awards. The FWA has also introduced an award for the best female player of the season for the first time this year, with Chelsea Ladies' Fran Kirby named as the inaugural winner. sboasia
